Animal rights

By Pranavi Kompalli

Have you ever witnessed someone being or something seeming unfair to animals? It actually happens quite often and this is because humans don’t care about and respect animal rights. This has to change! In this article, learn more about what animal rights are, why they must be protected and what you can do to make a change.

What are animal rights?

Animal rights are the simple things that all animals need to live safely, healthily and happily. Just like us humans, animals have several very important rights even if they can’t speak up about them. A few basic animal rights include: having a good supply of of food and water, a comfortable shelter/being able to live in their natural habitat and of course the right to not be treated like objects.

Are Animal rights always respected?

Unfortunately, no. Animals rights are often ignored. Many a times, people don’t remember that animals even have rights, forgetting to treat them with kindness. For example, Circuses mistreat animals by taking them away from their homes and using them to perform tricks and funny acts. Hunting takes the lives of tons of innocent wild animals too. The good news is that we can make a difference!

What can you do?

  1. Be their voice: Refuse to let others act unkind towards animals.
  2. Spread awareness: Make posters and set up campaigns to inform others.
  3. Keep them safe: Never support places that mistreat or hurt animals.
  4. Support the right actions: encourage adoption, donate to wildlife sanctuaries and volunteer at organisations working to protect animals.
